Wringing (Triptych)
Location
Washington, DC
Date
2025
Wringing is a three-part abstract series that uses red, white, and blue to explore themes of race, power, and the current political climate in America. In the first piece, a Black woman cradles a white baby wrapped in the Mississippi flag, with "In Greed We Trust" emblazoned in gold at the top. The background, an American flag, casts a stark juxtaposition of national pride against racial injustice. The second piece depicts Black hands wringing out a red tile into blue water, symbolizing the continuous struggle for justice and the draining impact of systemic oppression. The final painting shows a woman screaming against a red background, a raw, visceral outcry that reflects the anguish and frustration of living in a country that continues to roll back basic rights, such as access to abortion. Wringing is an urgent commentary on the intersection of race, politics, and the human spirit under pressure.
